Comments: The latest advancement in Wireless technology from Netgear. The WGU624 is actually two Wireless Access Points in one and while it doesn't double the Wireless throughput as "Double 108 Mbps Wireless" might indicate, what it does do is allow two 108mpbs Wireless Networks (802.11A & 802.11G/G+) to work together simultaneously. An example of this might be if you were downloading something from the Internet and watching a live feed at the same time. The WGU624 would organise things so that the download would occur on the 802.11G part while the live feed would be allocated to the less congested 802.11A channel for the best possible quality. An analogy of this might be a two horse cart. They cart still has the same top speed (as fast as either horse can go) but there's more pulling power so more people or cargo can ride in the cart.
To take advantage of the new feature, a new Wireless Card has also been developed called the WG511U which retails for around $110.00-150.00. There's no mention of a PCI version (for Desktop PCs) in the pipeline, but there is a USB version called the WG111U (ETA yet to be advised for Australia). Other 108mbs cards like the WG311T, WG511T, WG111T, WAG311 and WAG511 are compatible with the WGU624, however these don't have the ability to utilise the double 108mbs technology and can only use one 108mbs channel. (The WAG cards can use either 802.11G or A but the others can only do 802.11G) It also comes with Netgear's fabulous XR technology which allows more stable connections at lower signal levels. just do a google search for wgu624 freeze or locks up .... this unit has a heat issue.... very poor effort by Netgear on this one... and if you read all the hundreds of reviews failing this device... its amazing Netgear never stepped up to the plate to offer a repair or replace....
