Comments: An update for the 7404VGP to include support for Annex M connections. Annex M is a variation of ADSL2+ technology which should allow even faster Internet speeds, particularly upload where speeds of up to 2.5 mbits are theoretically possible. More at Whirlpool

The 7404VGPM & 7404VGOM models differ from the cheaper 7401VGPM by having two FXS ports and support from up to 8 SIP registrations at a time. (The 7401VGPM is only capable of one). Wireless and security features are the same for all 3 models.

How to tell the difference between a the 7404VGP and 7404VGPM: Both products are called 7404VGP on the box and on the sticker on the bottom of the modem so at first glance will appear to be identical. However, there's a couple of subtle differences to tell them apart -
    1. On the side of the 7404VGPM box there's a red dot beside the words "over POTS (Annex A + M)" and there's an "Annex M ready" sticker on the top of the box underneath its name.
    2. On the bottom of the modem the serial number will have the letter A in it (eg 95A0706000000) if it's the plain 7404VGP Annex A version, and a letter M in it (eg 95M0806000000) for the 7404VGPM.
Note: The two products may share a name and look much the same but inside they are quite different. You cannot upgrade a 7404VGP to Annex M, but the 7404VGPM is backwards compatible with standard Annex A ADSL lines.

Fantastic router. Am about to upgrade to the 7404VNPX, but this device has been solid and has never missed a beat. I’m hoping for the same experience with the 7404VNPX.

Had a 7402, with a dlink wireless AP and SPA1001. The SPA died, so I consolidated with this device. I could never get MyNetFone working on VOIP, and now on the 7404VGPM it’s fine. Now it’s just one device for all functions, and it’s working beautifully. Additionally, a speed test shows a slight improvement in ADSL performance over my 7402.

Benn using my Billion 7404VGPM since April, 2007. Been faultless, Easy to set up, VOIP works great. Like one of the other comments, the phone line provider gives me the most grief.

I have had no issue or trouble with the Billion 740VGPM ADSL modem router. I basically plugged and played, and I utilised my ISP’s set up recommendations. This modem has not let me down. About once a month if I remember to, I switch it off for a night and give it a break. Brilliant... This wasnt a paid plug either, I have not had problem with this modem/router. My phone line provider gives me more grief.

Just set up today. Not sure how to do the blocking of MSN and My Space. Like I want to set hours when that stuff is not available. Gotta learn all of that. Doing my head in. Too complex for me.
