Comments: The 6200NXL features two USB ports for a 3G modem* and to connect a USB Hard Drive or even a webcam. Unfortunately it can't handle two 3G USB modems at this stage but it may be considered in a future firmware release. However, it does have an ethernet WAN port to allow a separate ADSL or Cable modem to be connected which can then be set up to allow failover to the 3G connection in the event of an outage.

Another fairly unique feature is the inclusion of a torrent client so you can connect a hard drive to one of its USB ports and queue up torrents without relying on a PC being left on.

    Latest firmware supports Sierra 312U, 320U & ZTE MF821 3G/4G dongles.

Latest Sierra 320U firmware would not run Telstra modem regardless of configuration. Ran a Sierra 312 with no worries. I susupect USB port underpowered.

    Fantastic forum.

Thanks to all previous posts, and additional information on the site.

I just upgraded from the Telstra 3G 308 USB dongle to the Telstra 4G 320U. After a firmware upgrade on the 6200NXL to the latest (Billion_6200NXL_1.04c.afw) ..... I was up and running in 10 minutes.

PS. 4G speed is amazing !!!!

Thanks for the links and info again.

Beyond helping with internet set up the Billion support is non existent.!! Telstra modem works fine however I cannot get printers to route through this modem. Despite 3 emails and 3 phone calls, Billion ignore my urgent requests for help. It is now 4 days and they ignore help requests. I will never purchase Billion again!

Update: Printer issues have been solved but Internet stability with the 312U has been problematic. Following on from a phone call I received from Billion I have been experimenting with a combination of firmware updates on both the 312U and the 6200NXL Router....The most recent update for the router was a total disaster and seemed to prevent communication with the dongle/internet with its firmware as supplied (since discovered Oct 2010 !)

The present successful combination ( to date) outcome is a follows. The Billion firmware is this dated 29/12/2011 ......Billion_6200NXL_1.04a.dt1.v6[1].afw

The firmware on the 312U is now updated to this N2_0_8_5ap

I am now succesfully connected as I once was before I was advised to update the firmware on the router. I will now monitor the outcome for stabilty over the next few weeks.

I am glad to report that this 6200NXL is great, and I am perhaps the first to use it here in Saudi Arabia, with the ISP of Mobily using the Sierra Wireless 312U 42Mbps modem. Great deal, but impossible to buy here in Saudi Arabia, had to fly them into Dubai and the go there to pick up. Wish there was a retailer who sold them here in Saudi Arabia. Need to buy more of these routers can anyone help????

    Hi
can anyone recommend a router compatible with BigPond ultimate sierra, the Billion 6200 we were recommended is not compatible, help, we are not that computer savvy! Big pond won’t help.

Note from OzCableguy: The 6200NXL is compatible with Telstra Ultimate and works fine for most people. Contact Billion Support for help rather than Telstra though. However, any troubles will usually turn out to be one of the causes mentioned in my FAQ here.
To find all routers that currently support the 312U check out my "How to find a compatible Telstra Ultimate (Sierra 312U) router" FAQ

Great. Setup for Bigpond Wireless Modem (Sierra 308) worked well (but no thanks to Telstra helpdesk!) Needed Telstra_AUS as ISP (not bigpond_AUS), but my ...@bigpond.com as username

Great unit for the price, find the web interface slow compared to other routers and on the latest firmware still find issues with the 3G connection. After a few days the 3G drops and the router wont reconnect, even when I have keep connection alive. A power cycles restores the 3G connection, but shouldn’t have to be like this.

Setup was relatively painless. Get the odd drop-out as I have very low reception and have to reboot every now and then but on the whole its good. I’’m using the 312U modem. Did my research first and made sure the modem was on v1 firmware and updated the router to thr r3 revision and all seems to be working well.

useless thing failed to work with my Sierra 312u device. tried multiple things, different firmwares, multiple restarts all to no avail. Don’t buy this product if you want to use it with your nextG ultimate device.

Download speeds good, but lock-up issues requiring restart when using Sierra 312U modem– especially when trying to upload (ie send emails).

Took me about 20 minutes to set up - for the average user, it would take quite a bit longer. Overall, getting nice speeds and very satisfied.
